WINDHOEK- The country’s first fully electronic commercial bank, EBank, entered into a retail agreement with Engen Namibia enabling Windhoek based clients to purchase services at Engen service stations across the country using EBank transaction account. The retail agreement is expected to include all other Engen service stations across the country in coming weeks.

Clients would be able to buy from any Engen’s 24-hour convenience Quick shop as well as pay for fuel using EBank account via mobile phones. The agreement also enables people to withdraw cash from their EBank account from any of the participating Engen outlets.
Since EBank received its banking license in May this year, they have been piloting and testing their system and officially launched the product on November 1.

“We are proud of the partnership as along with this added convenience on our forecourts, clients are now provided with an alternative means of paying for fuel when stopping at the participating Engen stations,” Engen managing director, Nangula Hamunyela said.

She said this agreement comes at the right time as the industry and its customers experienced hardship due to the phasing out of the petrol cards in February this year.

“Our network of 54 independently operated sites, which consist of 34 Quick Shops, provides us with the opportunity to reach many Namibians with basic convenience retail services and the provision of fuel and various petroleum products and services,” she said.

EBank Chief Operating Officer, Gerald Riedel said the partnership with Engen is about bringing the electronic bank to the people by delivering banking services through a network of trusted, reliable and well-established retail partners.

“These retail partners create a footprint much larger than any traditional bank can offer through its branches. We leverage technology to enable our clients to access their bank account, anywhere and anytime, through their cellphone, tablet or personal computer. EBank clients can walk into one of our retail partner outlets and at the till, deposit or withdraw money from their EBank account or pay for goods directly from their EBank account in an easy, safe and smart manner,” he said.

EBank has patnership with other retail partners such as Woermann Brock, Agra and Cymot outlets countrywide.
