Reigning Miss Namibia Educational Ambassador, Loide Katjuskah, 24, is living her dreams with the recent opening of a feeding, orphans and kindergarten centre in Rundu, known as Wisdom.
Katjuskah says opening up the centre is part of her projects after winning the title the title in Oshikango, last year. The idea for the centre occurred to her when she visited different schools and villages around the country to familiarise herself with what is happening when it comes to primary education.
During her visits she addressed learners on the importance of education and on different issues, such as teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, the dangers and side effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
“During my visits I came across the village of Ndama, southwest of Rundu where I approached some kids and parents to ask how they live and about their educational background. I found out that most of the kids in the location are poor orphans and most of them don’t go to school, even at the age of seven to eight years old,” says Katjuskah.
She adds that she also came up with the idea for the centre as a way to show love, create jobs for fellow youths, and feed hungry kids. “This will be a permanent centre and I promise that many kids will benefit from this,” she says.
The centre is situated in Ndama Location and currently feeds 67 kids seven days a week, while 50 kids attend classes from Monday to Friday. Currently it has two teachers.
Katjuskah says so far they only received donations from Claudia Hamukwaya and are still looking for more good Samaritans to help them. “It is just the beginning now, but the centre is growing bigger. It makes me happy looking at these kids smiling, learning and playing together.”
