Education honours Nujoma

Education honours Nujoma

Education executive director Sanet Steenkamp, along with the ministry’s employees, yesterday laid a wreath at the Independence Memorial Museum in Windhoek in honour of Founding President Sam Nujoma.
Nujoma died on 8 February 2025 at the age of 95.
While laying the wreath, she reflected on the significance of the tribute, describing it as a beautiful and noble way to honour the late founding president.
“I personally take away the servant leadership that we were the leaders who served with dignity and integrity. I acknowledge that each and every one of you have a memory, or you take away a virtue or something that you hold onto that you can remember to honour his legacy,” Steenkamp said.
She added that Nujoma was the reason Namibians have access to education and libraries.

She will remember him as a kind and generous individual.
“I will remember him as a person always with a smile. When the smile brightened, his face lit up. Also, the very strong and authoritative leadership that he at times displayed was necessary in specific contexts. He is our liberator.

He is our first president, the founding president, and the father of the Namibian nation,” she said.
Nujoma will be laid to rest at Heroes Acre on Saturday.
