!Nami#nus Constituency Councillor Jan Scholtz has reminded students in this automated technologically driven world that education is the key to a better future.
Scholtz made these remarks at a ceremony at his office last Friday when he handed study assistance for N$12 600 to two students from Lüderitz, who have enrolled for further studies.
Petrina Christian, a student at the Namibian Marine and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI) where she enrolled for a course in instrumentation and control received N$3 600, while Palen Tacjaard who is doing a pre-electrical engineering course at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) received study assistance of N$7 000.
Scholtz explained that the funding was sourced from the //Karas Regional Council through the !Nami#nus Constituency office, which assessed the beneficiary students’ marks and also looked at the economic situation of their parents who are unemployed.
Scholtz emphasized that the beneficiaries should realize that
education is the only tool to overcome poverty, unemployment and hopelessness.
“Without education and hard work you will be doomed to suffer, and be strangled in misery that leads to backwardness, alcohol and drug abuse,” said Scholtz.
On her part Christian applauded the councillor for giving her funds to go and study and she promised that she would study very hard for her to plough back into her community in the future when she completes her studies.
