Education projects get N$1.6m injection

The Capricorn Foundation has renewed its commitment to improving access to quality education for children in Namibia.

The foundation invested N$1.6 million in three education projects: Amos Meerkat Syllabus, EduVision Online Learning and Karstveld Academy.

The support focuses on early childhood development, online learning, and secondary education.

Veripura Muukua, said head of the Capricorn Foundation, education remains a key focus area for the organisation. She said the foundation aims to help close the education gap between rural and urban areas and to support vulnerable communities nationwide.

“We recognise our responsibility to support Namibia’s socio-economic growth by improving access to education for all children,” Muukua said.

Amos Meerkat Syllabus was allocated N$600 000. The funds will be used for stationery and printing workbooks. The project will reach approximately 6 000 children and support 300 teachers. The syllabus supports pre-schools on farms, in rural areas and in informal settlements by providing a curriculum aligned with national education standards and preparing children for primary school.

EduVision Online Learning received N$609 744. Through this project, the Capricorn Foundation supports two schools in the Hardap Region: S.I. Oaseb Secondary School in Gibeon and Pioneer Secondary School in Schlip.

The programme uses online lessons to teach subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics. Lessons are recorded by qualified teachers and used to support classroom instruction.

EduVision director Frikkie Louw said education support can change learners’ lives.

“If we can put light into the eyes of one learner, we know they will find the right direction,” he said.

He thanked the Capricorn Foundation for its continued support. The Foundation also committed N$423 330 to Karstveld Academy in Grootfontein. The funding will cover school and hostel fees for six Grade 12 learners in the 2026 academic year. The academy focuses on academic and cultural excellence and has been supported by the foundation since 2024.

Karstveld Academy Principal Jean-Pierre Botha said investing in young people is key to the country’s future. “This investment supports not only learners today, but their future careers as well,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the Amos Meerkat Syllabus have also welcomed the support. Senja Shikomba Kaafuli, principal of Omusati Pre-Primary and Day Care Centre in Windhoek, said the syllabus improved teaching at her school.

“Before 2015, we did not have a suitable curriculum. The Amos Meerkat Syllabus made teaching easier and more successful for the Namibian child,” she said.

The Capricorn Foundation is a registered Namibian welfare organisation and a Section 21 Company. It is funded by Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Asset Management and Entrepo.
