The Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi on Tuesday inaugurated a leaking N$2 million extension wing at Eenhana Vocational Training Centre (VTC).

The new wing includes an administration block, eight classrooms, computer lab and a bulk storage facility.
The administration block, which the staff members moved into a day before the inauguration, is one of the leaking areas at the centre.
Officials allege that already the roof has to be fixed.

“There are just too many areas that will need to be fixed here, because the final touches to the building were really sloppy,” a VTC employee said.

When the minister toured the building a mat was placed at one of the leaking spots to cover the water.
New Era was reliably informed that the first contractor was fired and a new contractor was brought in to complete the construction. The building was completed in November last year.

Centre manager Hinandjovo Muashekele said the leakage cannot be attributed to sloppy work by the contractor.
He said leakages are not foreseen upon completion of construction work hence buildings are guaranteed until one year after the rainy season to allow the contractor to do repairs if there are any.

“The contractors are already on site doing the repairs, so this is not sloppy work. If you had time I would show you the sloppy work,” said Muashekele.

However, some staff members at the centre mocked the infrastructure procured for the centre.
The vocational centre first opened its doors in 2011 and now houses 629 trainees.
