Rehoboth
It is not every day that a TV soapie superstar visits Namibia, let alone pay a quick visit to the annual meat festival in Rehoboth to meet with hundreds of adoring fans – with Miss Namibia 2015 at his side.
But this is exactly what happened on Saturday when hunky Egoli superstar Clint Brink arrived with Miss Namibia Steffi van Wyk at the Rehoboth showgrounds, greeted by a horde of screaming fans, mostly young Rehoboth females.
Brink plays one of the lead male roles in Egoli, without doubt the most popular tv soapie in SA. The series has been running for many years and attracts newcomers, like Brink, to spice up the drama and intrigues of the characters in the series, much to the delight of thousands of viewers in Namibia.
The red carpet was literally rolled out at the entrance of the showgrounds for Brink and Van Wyk, where the Roman Catholic Church of Rehoboth hosted its second annual meat festival, attracting a record crowd on Saturday, with heaps of entertainment, live music, train- and horse rides, impressive stalls and enough meat to supply an army. Superstar Brink was indifferent to all the attention.
Far from being the hardcore actor on Egoli, he immediately showed his true character, as a man with his feet firmly planted on the ground. He is after all someone that does lot of charity work when his hectic schedule allows him to.
He arrived in Windhoek on Wednesday to attend a gala dinner with Miss Namibia 2015, where funds were raised for Namibia’s Para-Olympic team.
“When I received the invite to join the Baster and Coloured community of Rehoboth, I could not refuse. I am after all a Cape Coloured and have a very strong bond with these people of Namibia,” he told this reporter.
“Also, it was my first visit to Rehoboth and the first time to meet them personally and thank them for watching my show every day. What a place, what a country!” he exclaimed, promising to be back soon on a more relaxed trip to explore the beauty of Namibia.
