Eichab sets sight on title

Eichab sets sight on title

After finishing third in last season’s premier league season, Khomas Nampol head coach Fortune Eichab said he has set his sights on challenging for the league title. The police team amassed a total of 59 points.

This is five points behind the league winners, African Stars.

Reflecting on his tremendous performance in the league last season, he said they had one goal, which was to not get relegated.

That pushed the team to punch above their weight.

“We had a very balanced team last season. We had a crop of new players and old players to ensure that the team was good in all departments. I think the other factor was that we had sufficient pre-season matches, which gave us time to try out combinations,” he stated.

Commenting on his target for this season, Eichab said “after finishing in third position, we obviously needed to be a better team. We have added some new players. This means we are serious and we want the league title. We will try our best, and see how it ends.”

Khomas Namibian Police (NamPol) was one of the most active teams in the ongoing transfer season.

Eichab said they have acquired services of various up-and-coming as well as some seasoned players, whom he believes will add more depth to the team this season.

“I am happy with the current crop of players we have for the yet-to-start league season. All the departments are now in a good space, and the new players are adapting well. We have been trying to create some combinations in some friendly matches we have played. I’m happy there is progress so far on our side,” he added.

The 2024/25 Debmarine Premiership season is expected to start on 29 November.

Khomas Nampol is set to face Young Brazilian in the opening league fixture.

Other than the premiership assignment, they will square off against newly-promoted side KK Palace in January in the newly-launched MTC Maris Cup.

Stars are the reigning champions after they retained the league for the second time in a row.

The Katutura giants clinched the PstBet Namibia Football Association Cup when they edged Young Brazilian 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Independence Stadium.
