In November 2013 she had a very successful exhibition at the Omba Gallery at the Craft Centre. The Project Room is an idea she has been carrying around with her for some time since she moved back to Namibia beginning 2013 preparations are running. The exhibition opens on February 1 and 2 from ten O’clock in the morning (10H00) till four O’clock in the afternoon (16H00).

The concept of The Project Room is to provide workshop areas accompanied by a gallery space. Both workshop and gallery will concentrate on the handcrafted aspects of arts like product design, furniture design, textile, jewellery, ceramics, print to name a few. Artists will be invited to experiment in different mediums and techniques or to teach and pass on their experience to others in the form of workshops. The Project Room also aims to invite artist from outside Namibia to share their arts and crafts with us.

Projects already started in 2013 with jewellery hobby classes twice a week which due to high demand will be increased to three times a week this year. Apart from that The Project Room offered a Print – Play weekend in May 2013, which will be followed by another beginning this year. With the opening of the exhibition this evening henceforth there will be an exhibition every two months.

The Project Room will show works of Stephan Eins, Christine Skowski and Frieda Lühl at Cape Towns Design Indaba Expo end of February 2014. With Cape Town chosen as the Design Capital 2014 the Project Room will be represented at the Expo in the African Pavilion amongst artists and designers from all over Africa.Other projects planned for the year 2014 are another etching/print workshop, a workshop of making jewellery from iron and a sculptural workshop in paper maché.For more information on upcoming exhibitions and workshops join the Facebook page The Project Room – Namibia or email to info@frieda.co.za

“I design and make furniture at my home in Aris, Namibia.

The techniques are strongly influenced by my background in metal- and woodwork, but I also look for other ways elsewhere. Because of the different materials that I combine it is often not possible to go for a “traditional approach/ technique,” says artist Eins.  The majority of materials are timber and scrap metals. The timber is cut from local urban gardens and scrap metal she collects wherever she find them. The electrical materials are almost always new as it is hard to find old but reliable and safe items. For any further questions please contact me on 081 7513026 or email to info@frieda.co.za.
