OKANGOROROSA – The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture’s director in the Oshikoto region Aletta Eises has called on learners to stop visiting cuca shops, and instead focus on improving their academic work.
She said this on Friday during the inauguration and handing-over of a four-classroom block, one pre-primary class and an ablution facility with four toilets at the Okangororosa Combined School in the Omuthiya circuit which was constructed by the MoEAC directorate in the region.
“I was informed that learners from these schools are frequently visiting the cuca shops and shebeens in their areas after school,” added Eises.
She urged parents and guardians to take responsibility by stopping their children from visiting cuca shops after school, as they are in their care.
“As leaders of our society, we need to carry the responsibility of raising future deputy ministers and ministers properly. So, let us not let our learners do what they want,” stressed Eises.
She said parents should take care of their children at home, before teachers take care of them at school.
“We want our community to be healthy, so let us put our houses in order, as this is where they start with everything,” she continued.
Learners have nothing to gain when frequenting cuca shops, except for becoming victims of alcohol, she emphasised.
A former deputy minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, and now a resident of Okangororosa village, Aino Kapewangolo, said the availability of the new facilities at the school will encourage the educators to provide quality education, improve parental involvement, and learners’ school attendance.
“Most of the structures, including the shack structures used by our learners and teachers, are not in a good state as they have been exposed to harsh weather conditions such as rain and extreme heat,” she said.
Kapewangolo then thanked the MoEAC as well as the Oshikoto education directorate and the entire government for constructing the new facilities for their school.
She furthermore requested the MoEAC to avail extra facilities such as teachers and learners’ accommodation, offices, and an administration block. –Nampa
