Tim Ekandjo, the Chief Human Capital & Corporate Affairs Officer at MTC, has described the recently crowned International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Super Bantamweight world champion, Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda, as a gallant fighter and the greatest Namibian sports personality of all time after Ambunda claimed his second world title.

Ekandjo described Ambunda’s display – and more importantly his perseverance – as world class: “When he was knocked down, we all thought the contest was done and dusted, but he showed real Namibian bravery by dusting himself off to win the bout in the most dignified fashion, making this one the most exciting fights in boxing history”.

“Ambunda has tumbled every available local sporting record by clinching a second world title, thus making his achievement the greatest sporting achievement in Namibia.

“This certainly speaks volumes of the potential sporting talent we have in the country, but we have to nurture and invest in the talent, otherwise it will forever just remain potential talent. Ambunda’s attitude, discipline and superb level of fitness clearly helped him through the fight. We can now confidently hail him as a sporting hero that deserves all our respect”.

Ekandjo encouraged other local athletes to continue pursuing their dreams. The well-attended world title bout was successfully promoted by the revered Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy, with MTC as principal sponsors.
