WINDHOEK – The Windhoek Magistrate’s Court recently remanded to 27 February, 2015 the matter in which the Director of Elections of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), Profesor Paul John Isaak, 66, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Isaak faces one count of contravening the Road Traffic Ordinance – driving with an excessive blood-alcohol level.
Documents from the court did not provide much detail, such as to where in Windhoek the incident happened.
He made his first court appearance on 23 December last year, three months after he was appointed as director of elections of the ECN.
Court documents indicate that during the second appearance, when the director was in court recently, Magistrate Jermaine Muchali decided on 27 February 2015 as the date for the final remand.
Isaak is free on bail of N$4 000, which was extended to next year. The matter was remanded, as the lab results were apparently not yet ready.
Prosecutor Verinao Kamahene represented the State, while Chris Brandt represented Isaak.
Isaak formerly lectured at Unam and was appointed last year after Moses Ndjarakana’s term of office as director of elections ended in July last year.
