The Minister of Works and Transport Alpheus !Naruseb on Wednesday at Eenhana officially inaugurated the Elundu-Eenhana road that connects Ohangwena to the two Kavango regions.

The project costs government N$105 million and was constructed by China State and KATA Joint Venture.
In his keynote address, !Naruseb said the road will improve the flow of traffic between Elundu and Eenhana and also enhance safety between Ohangwana and Kavango regions.

“This newly upgraded road will now significantly improve accessibility to health facilities and aid in patients getting faster and with ease to health facilities,” said !Naruseb.

Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Ohangwena Region Usko Nghaamwa said the road will create links between the constituencies and enable the residents of Ohangwena to move and conduct their business freely.

!Naruseb appealed to the community of Ohangwena Region to exercise a sense of ownership towards the infrastructure and to guard it zealously against vandalism and other vices that are detrimental to the development of the area and country at large.

Roads Authority (RA) CEO Conrad Lutombi informed the gathering that work on the Etomba-Omundaungilo road is progressing well. He said a contractor is soon to be appointed to rehabilitate the Eenhana-Onhuno road.

Also on Wednesday, the RA signed the commencement of construction of the Mangetti West Phase 2 in Oshikoto Region with the contractors Nammibbeton and KL Construction. The project, which is fully funded by government, is envisaged to cost government N$60 million and will provide employment to 150 workers in the project’s vicinity.Lutombi said the 50km stretch of road from Cassablanca to Elavi will have great socio-economic benefits for farmers in the Mangetti area as the road will provide much needed linkage with established market centres such as Ondangwa, Rundu and Tsumeb.

!Naruseb appealed to drivers to inspect their cars before going on the road and urged the National Road Safety Council and other stakeholders to speed up and intensify all efforts in the fight against road carnage.

“We all need to be extremely vigilant and cautious at all times on the road; we cannot afford to lose more lives on our road network,” said !Naruseb.
