Well-known roads construction company, Grinaker-LTA, last week honoured its 23 employees with certificates after they successfully participated in a two-week training workshop that was held early this year.
The handover ceremony was held Thursday at the company’s office operations site, some 100 km from Kamanjab.
The workshop, that was made possible with the financial assistance of the Namibia School of Engineering Technology in collaboration with its sister technology group company, LSA School of Technology, equipped participants with basic first aid skills, the application of health and safety measures at the work area and knowledge on batch and mixing concrete by volume.
At the occasion, Grinaker’s overall site manager, Nick Putter, urged participants to make good use of the knowledge attained at the workshop at all times at their respective work sites.
He thanked Namibia School of Engineering Technology that financed the workshop, adding that this was not the first time that his company has worked together with the engineering school.
He noted that on numerous occasions, the company and many others had extended a helping hand to his company especially to new recruits on different themes, such as HIV/AIDS and TB, among others.
The training was done according to the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA)’s outcomes based standards.
NQA inspected and audited the quality of the training site of Grinaker-LTA on the Kamanjab-Omakange road in February this year prior to the training workshop and thus deemed it vital.
Grinaker-LTA is a roads construction company that is currently working on the Kamanjab-Omakange road, a stretch of some 204 km.
The first phase of the construction, which is some 104 km, is nearly complete, with only a mere 10 km stretch that is yet to be opened to traffic.
Once the road is completed, it will link Opuwo the regional capital of Kunene to the rest of the country’s road network.
