Inomuinjo Kapimbi, a dedicated young Namibian environmental advocate and founder of the Schools Environmental Club (SEC), has once again taken significant steps towards creating a sustainable future.
His latest focus is on younger learners nationwide, with the introduction of the SEC Primary Schools’ initiative.
This programme intends to spark an understanding of environmental conservation and sustainability among primary school pupils, empowering them to actively engage in shaping their environment.
The primary vision behind the SEC Primary Schools initiative is to integrate hands-on environmental education and sustainability projects into classrooms across the country.
Through practical activities, the initiative aspires to instil a sense of responsibility and urgency for protecting the planet.
“The future of our environment lies in the hands of our youth. It’s vital that we not only teach children about sustainability’s importance, but also equip them with the tools to effect real change in their communities. This initiative focuses on empowering the next generation of environmental champions,” he remarked.
The SEC Primary Schools’ initiative will provide a series of workshops, activities and educational resources centred on sustainable practices like waste management, water conservation and tree-planting. Students will be encouraged to participate in local environmental initiatives, creating lasting impacts in their communities while reinforcing the significance of protecting natural resources.
In addition to raising environmental awareness, the initiative aims to equip students with the skills necessary to tackle real-world issues in creative and collaborative ways.
Kapimbi believes that allowing children to lead environmental efforts will instil pride and ownership in the world they help to shape.
The initiative has already garnered strong support from local schools, educators and envi ronmental organisations, who are enthusiastic about the next generation of Namibians taking an active role in environmental stewardship.
“Currently, 13 primary schools have already joined the initiative, but the SEC Primary Schools’ launch is only beginning. Organisers intend to expand, hoping to involve more schools throughout Namibia. This initiative is a step towards creating a future where sustainability is not merely a lesson learned, but a way of life embraced by the upcoming generation,” he noted.
This ambitious programme enjoys robust backing from the education ministry, the Namibia Chamber of Environment and other pivotal environmental organisations.
These partnerships offer essential funding, resources and expertise to guarantee the programme’s success.
Last year, Kapimbi launched the SEC initiative to empower young students as catalysts for environmental change.
He initiated the programme due to the pressing need to involve young learners in environmental protection, firmly believing that students can drive meaningful change in their schools, particularly concerning sustainability.
