WINDHOEK – The players of the Eros Bowling Club (EBC) started the year on a high note by winning their matches in the National Bowls League.
Three of their four teams managed to take the top spots in their respective divisions at last weekend’s opening match-day. The three teams now sit in first place in the men’s, mixed and second division standings. The games were played on Saturday and Sunday at different venues around the country. In the men’s division, the EBC players came up against their rivals from the TransNamib Bowling Club in their opening encounter. The TransNamib Club was however unable to capitalize on their home ground advantage as they crashed to a 17:12 defeat.
Brimming with confidence following their win, the EBC men went on to beat Windhoek Bowling Club (WBC) the next day with an impressive score of 27:12. The EBC female club members also started off their campaign in winning ways as they went on to beat TransNamib 21:15. They could, however, not repeat their strong performance the next day, as they eventually succumbed to WBC by 19:15.
Nevertheless the EBC mixed team made sure that their club would grab another lead as they also celebrated victory over TransNamib with a score of 23:14. In the newly created second division, the Eros Bowling Club was once again unstoppable – defeating TransNamib to take the overall lead. In other action the women’s team of Rossmund Bowling Club (RBC) showed tremendous character as they celebrated an impressive come-back against Tsumeb Bowling Club (TBC). The team had been trailing for much of the game, when they turned their fortunes around with a perfect 8. They never lost focus again after that to secure a 24:18 win.
