WINDHOEK – The hugely popular PTA Tennis Series kicked off in great style at the Windhoek High School (WHS) tennis courts last weekend, with a total of 34 participants making their way to the event that saw some players travelling all the way from Rehoboth to be part of the tennis spectacle.

In the Advance category, there was no stopping Codie van Schalkwyk once again and the highly gifted young defending champion made no mistake to clinch top spot ahead of his brother Connor – leaving Oliver Diggle to pick up the pieces for 3rd place.  The Intermediate division was won by Adelaide Pallais with Arthur Diergaardt and

Rhomeé Beukes having to settle for 2nd and 3rd places respectively.  In other action, Randel Kavandje came out tops in the Beginner’s category as the pair of  Delicia Dirkse (2nd) and Mondré Orren (3rd) were unable to stop the dangerous Kavandje.

In the Midi category, Adam Diggle and Beyonce Boois shared the spoils for 1st place after the pair finished on equal on points while Faith Kahuure, one of last year’s top players, finished in 2nd place with Daniel Sindila adrift in 3rd spot. Hendrina Apollus won the Mini category ahead of Georgia Orren and Maluci Namwandi.

“We would like to thank all players and supporters for making the tourney a resounding success and can now look forward to our next event in March,” said tournament organizer, Romeo van Wyk.  All participants collected points for the PTA Tennis Ranking since throughout the series players accumulate ranking points on a 12-month rolling basis with great prizes in store for the overall winners at the end of the year.
