Home Time Out Exhibition tells the African story

Windhoek

Graphic artist, Romeo Sinkala’s, The Return of the Fundi exhibition opens at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) restaurant La bonne Table on Monday

The exhibition seeks wisdom, heritage, culture and African identity. Sinkala sees the importance of telling African stories. “We are the pupils of this land, the students of heritage, and custodians of custom and protectors of this rich legacy. We have stories to be told,” he says. Fund is a Bantu word that in many Bantu languages translates to wise-one, teacher, skilled artisan or simply a person with special knowledge about a subject or life. “To be a fundi takes dedication and time. Many of us are striving to be in some form to be wise or knowledgeable about our fields,” says Sinkala.

The Return of the Fundi “ is telling our stories, since they are missing from our bookstores, online media and even our bookshelves. We are editing ourselves from this history we are creating. In time to come we will not be remembered, we will only be a statistic that passed through time with no significant addition to their people or nation,” says Sinkala. The exhibition will run until August 29.
