SWAKOPMUND – Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) president Abner Xoagub has praised the potential of the just-ended expo in exposing the latest technologies to the entire nation.
He made these remarks during an interview with New Era Sport at the Sports Expo in Swakopmund, where he was reacting to an exhibitor who specialised in eye training for athletes to help them increase their concentration during competition.
Eye Excel is a sports vision centre based in Windhoek. They help athletes improve their concentration, elevate visual tracking, and accelerate decision-making on the field or court.
He began by highlighting the importance of such an expo, and how it brings sports codes together to share notes. “I will support any sports expo at any time, not only locally, but anywhere in the world. The expo has brought people from different tribes, races and countries together. This demonstrates its significant impact. We have a lot of coaches and athletes here sharing ideas and new insights, which is very beneficial for the growth of sports in Namibia”, he added.
He mentioned that this is a technology he wasn’t aware of in Namibia, and he learned about it at the sports expo. What surprised him was finding out that it’s a fully-Namibian product. “At this expo, we are exposed to the latest technologies in various sports codes. I was looking at a new approach on how to improve eyesight and concentration. These technologies can be incorporated into various sports codes. For example, take archers as well as boxers, who can train to improve their accuracy”, Xoagub enthused.
“In the past, people didn’t focus on anything like that; they took it for granted. But now, if we can embrace these technologies and work with them, I’m sure many of our athletes will perform exceptionally well in their quest to qualify for major tournaments,” he added.
“We invite other federations which are not part of the sports expo to join us next year. This event not only helps them connect with other codes, but also provides valuable lessons through seminars and presentations. You can find all the knowledge you need here,” he emphasised.”
Meanwhile, Eye Excel founder Jana Kotze was upbeat. “I always wanted to start something like this because I know that to compete, you have to focus. We couldn’t offer a better way for athletes to excel than bringing such services to them,” she noted.
