KEETMANSHOOP – The 48-year-old man accused of raping his 18-year-old daughter was denied bail in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Court documents seen by Nampa indicated that the accused made his first appearance before magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who postponed the case to 3 March 2025 for further police investigation and Legal Aid application.
The accused indicated his intention to apply for a lawyer through the Directorate of Legal Aid.
He was denied bail as the investigations are at an early stage, and the State fears he might interfere with witnesses.
“The victim was allegedly also assaulted by the accused after the incident.
The State requests that he remains in custody,” said prosecutor Easter Jafet.
The magistrate advised the accused to bring a formal bail application if he wishes to be released on bail.
He remains in police custody until his next court appearance.
In the incident, the victim allegedly awoke to the accused on top of her.
“She tried to push him away, but the accused did not stop… and when he stood up, he threatened to beat her with a sjambok,” said a police report shared earlier with this news agency.
