Home Crime and Courts Father appears in court for stabbing own kids

WINDHOEK – The Gobabis police constable accused of stabbing his children, killing one, made a first appearance in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The court however postponed the case to June 18, to allow the officer, identified as 28-year-old Albertus Ganeb, to obtain legal aid.

He was also not allowed to post bail. Ganeb stabbed his 7-year-old son to death and wounded his 4-year-old son in a jealous rage over his girlfriend receiving short text messages from another man.

The 4-year-old Titus Swartz is currently fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of the Katutura State Hospital. The murderous acts took place last Friday night, while the mother of the children was at work.

The eldest brother, Gregory Swartz, died on the spot immediately following the stabbing. Ganeb was arrested in the Epako township on Saturday night, while trying to evade capture. He had been with the police force in Gobabis for the past two years.
