Finale of Spring Fiesta is upon us

When the much-liked Windhoek Spring Fiesta (WSF) All White Party takes place later this year, it will be for the last time.

After hosting the Spring Fiesta for 11 years, the Doctainment team has decided to throw the awesome Spring Fiesta one final time to “make way for the new wave of hosts”.

“We’ve built something that needs to be taken to the next level. We are confident that the new generation will be able to do that. We’ll still be operating in the entertainment space, but we are slightly gonna shift our focus to something new and exciting,” said John Cloete, one of the founding members of Doctainment.

A highlight of the local entertainment calendar, the show, which boasts 100% local performers and MCs, has over the years given much-needed exposure to Namibian entertainers without them being overshadowed by international acts.

“To be quite honest, we have so much talent in our country but we never gave them an opportunity to showcase their talent on a big stage – and that’s why we came up with the all-local line-up concept, and if you look at our current events, we fill up clubs, lounges and stadiums with an all-local line-up.”

The organiser admitted that funding or getting sponsors has always been a major challenge, especially in the current climate, to make WSF worthwhile attending over the years.

“We had to dig deep and remain consistent with the quality of the event, especially to convince sponsors to come on board and get the buy-in from eventgoers. The fact that we’ve built the Windhoek Spring Fiesta around local vendors, service providers, DJs and artists was our biggest selling point. We remained persistent and eventually got the buy-in from a few sponsors and of course the general public,” he said.

Dropping a hint of their next project, Cloete said the Doctainment brand will shift focus from the dance floor straight into the wardrobes of their followers.

However, they will still be available to assist upcoming event organisers and DJs.

He thanked everyone who has been supporting him and fellow organiser Ernest van Zyl from the beginning and promised to make the last edition memorable.

“We thank our sponsors that believed in our vision and most importantly our followers; we salute you. To all the artists and DJs that have worked with us, you’ve made us stronger, and we wish you all best.”

The final instalment of the WSF will be held at XS Lounge on 10 September with an interesting line-up, including JBlack, Cassidy Karon and Ryan the DJ, among others.  – slunyangwe@nepc.com.na
