Kavango West’s only First Division football team, KK United FC, held a meeting at Nkurenkuru on Saturday to review their 2024-2025 season performance and address various challenges facing the club.
Addressing the meeting, the team’s chairperson, Sisanda Gabriel, said despite leading the league from game one through to game 16, the team ultimately lost the championship to Rundu Chiefs due to internal difficulties, including financial constraints.
“The most challenging part the club is facing is the financial difficulties. We don’t have a sponsor, and this affects our team’s performance because they need to be taken care of. We are struggling even with transport, food and training equipment,” he stressed.
Despite receiving N$117 000 from the Namibia Football Association (NFA), the funding falls short of the team’s needs, he said, noting that the team’s executives ended up using their own money to cater for the needs of players.
“We attempted to generate additional revenue through beverage sales during home games, but we faced many challenges,” he noted.
The meeting also addressed professional conduct during matches.
Looking ahead to the 2025- 2026 season, Team Manager Herman Kambanzera, while outlining his strategy, appealed to the community to support their plan in seeking more sponsorships.
“We are the only team representing Kavango West on the high stage, which is the first division. The focus now is to take the team to the Premier League,” he said.
KK United finished third in the previous season and recently won two tournaments – the ShanamBanga Annual Tournament and the Nkurenkuru Mayoral Cup – boosting team morale as they prepare for player recruitment to strengthen their squad.
