Fistball to ignite sparks in city …Grafenau miss out

Fistball fans are in for a treat this weekend as the Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) prepares to host an exciting fistball tournament in the capital.

A total of 10 teams has confirmed their participation and will battle it out for top honours across various categories.

The first match is scheduled to kick off at 08h30 on Saturday morning, starting with the U/13 division.

In the U/18 category, seven teams have entered the competition, promising intense action as CFC’s youth sides face off against their traditional rivals SKW in what are expected to be thrilling encounters.

However, reigning champions TSV Grafenau from Germany will not be available to defend their title this year due to financial constraints.

“It’s a big tournament, and having them would have really elevated the competition level, but it has to do with money. We didn’t advertise the event like we have done in the past, so there wasn’t much hype around it this year,” said Helmo Minz, chairperson of the Cohen Fistball Club.

Despite the absence of the defending champions, Minz expressed optimism about the level of competition expected this weekend.

“We’ll have more international teams from Germany next year, but for this edition, it will be strictly local clubs. Still, we expect every team to bring their A-game to the court on Saturday,” he added.

Speaking on his team’s readiness, Minz said preparations have gone smoothly and confidence is high ahead of the big day.

“We had a good week testing ourselves and identifying our shortcomings. As a team, we’re happy and ready for this weekend. We’re eager for action and have our eyes on the prize,” he said.
