Top teams in the national Fistball league will convene in Windhoek over the weekend for the highly anticipated fifth tournament of the year.
The tournament will take place in the capital, with Cohen Fistball Club serving as the host team for this event. Over 15 teams are expected to compete for top honours in various categories.
Action will commence on Friday, in the U/13 category, where Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) will face off against the host team, Cohen Fistball Club, with hopes to maintain a good run in that respective division.
In the U/18 division, about four teams, including Swakopmund Fistball Club, Cohen Fistball Club, and two other teams, will battle it out for a significant place on the podium.
In Category A, the hosts CFC will field two teams, joined by two sides each from SKW and SFC. With five wins in five tournaments this season, the CFC first team enters as the clear favourite. However, both SFC 1 and CFC 2 have already reached two finals this year and will be aiming to challenge for the title. Playing at home, CFC 2 will be eager to leverage its home
advantage, although tough competition awaits.
The Category B field has shrunk since the season opener in February, when seven teams participated. This weekend, only three teams will compete, two from SKW and one from CFC (CFC 3).
With four victories in five tournaments, SKW 3 emerges as the clear frontrunner for the title. As tradition goes, the national youth, women’s, and men’s teams will close the weekend with a joint training session on Sunday. Fistball Association Namibia (FAN) media representative, Helmo Minz, said fans can expect exciting matches over the weekend and urged fans to come out in large numbers and support the teams.
“This is one of the biggest tournaments where top teams will battle it out for top honours. I am excited about what we are about to witness on Saturday, and I wish the best to all teams,”
