WINDHOEK – A total of sixteen football teams signed up for the annual Bank Windhoek Seven-A-Side football tournament, which got underway on Monday evening at the Windhoek Show Grounds in the entertainment area.

Games take place every evening between 19h00 and 21h00. Altogether ten matches were played on Monday in the opening round that saw last year’s champions Brahman Epukiro take the lead in the social tournament. Newcomers Omaheke Chiefs showed amazing skills and could be a formidable challenger to the more experienced Brahman Epukiro outfit. This year, support staff at the Windhoek Show, including cleaners and security guards, together with workers of farmers exhibiting at the show, are eligible for participation in the tournament.

The tournament, which was started last year, aims to create a constructive past time for farm workers and support staff at the show. The winning team will receive N$1 000 per player, the runners-up N$750 per player, while the players of the third-placed team each receive N$500.
