Former Katima CEO Nawa dies

KATIMA MULILO – Former Katima Mulilo Town Council CEO Charles Nawa Nawa has died.
Nawa, aged 50, died on Friday morning in a Windhoek hospital after battling a heart illness for several months.

Confirming his death to Nampa on Saturday, his younger brother, Enerst Sitali Simbotwe Nawa, described the late former CEO’s death as a big loss not only to the family, but the entire region and country at large.

“He was a pillar of strength in our family. I seriously do not have many words to say now. All I can say is that he was present almost everywhere – in construction, in business, in politics and as a community volunteer in various services, especially as a master of ceremonies at some community gatherings in town and elsewhere, doing it free of charge,” he stated.

The town’s former mayor, Charles Mukaya Matengu, on his social media post on Friday evening, praised the late Nawa for bringing development to the town during his reign as CEO.
These developments, Matengu highlighted, include the first traffic lights installed in the town, tarring of roads, and the establishment of three satellite police stations, among others.

“You acquitted yourself with honour and distinction during your tenure as CEO of the Katima town,” he said.
The late Nawa served as CEO from 2012 to 2016. He leaves behind his wife Inonge Sikanda – Nawa and nine children.
Funeral arrangements are underway.
