By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK A former expatriate and sub-editor at New Era, David Kashweka, is no more. Kashweka died on Monday in Kalabo Hospital in the Western Province of Zambia. Daughter of the deceased, Belinda Kashweka Matengu, yesterday confirmed to New Era that Kashweka had died of malaria and high blood pressure. He joined the New Era editorial team in September 1995 and remained until December 2001 when he decided to return to his home country of Zambia where he was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the administration of Levy Mwanawasa. Kashweka was later transferred to the Ministry of Community Development in the same position. Following the recent elections in Zambia; the former New Era employee campaigned for a position as Member of Parliament (MP) in his hometown, Kalabo, but did not live to celebrate and fill the seat he had won in the recent elections. It is still to be decided when and where he will be buried. Kashweka is survived by eight children – five girls and three boys.
