Four alleged poachers arrested on Kalkfeld game farm

OTJIWARONGO – Four suspected poachers were arrested on Friday morning after they were allegedly found camping on Otjipaue game farm in the Kalkfeld area with dried game meat in their possession.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s community affairs’ commander in the Otjozondjupa region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha said in a media statement on Friday that the male suspects aged 20, 24, 35 and 52 were charged with illegal hunting of huntable game.

“The suspects were allegedly found to have slaughtered an oryx on Farm Otjipaue. It is also suspected that they poached two zebras, a kudu and one oryx on Farm Ondombo, all with a combined value of N$ 116 000”, she stated.

The suspected poachers allegedly used snare wires to trap the animals.

They were expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Police investigations continue.
