WALVIS BAY – Four people have died in two separate accidents over the weekend in Erongo region.
Three of these people died on the spot Saturday afternoon when a red Volkswagen Golf 6 and a Toyota seven-seater collided at the Dolphin Beach turn-off.
According to inspector Ileni Shapumba, the Golf was travelling to Dolphin Beach from Swakopmund, while the seven-seater was travelling from Walvis Bay.
“It is alleged that the driver of the Golf was turning into Dolphin Beach without checking oncoming traffic – as a result, it crashed into the seven-seater that was travelling to Swakopmund,” he explained.
Shapumba said the driver of the Golf and one of his passengers died on the spot as well as one passenger from the seven-seater.
Four other people sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated at the Walvis Bay state hospital.
A case of culpable homicide is currently being investigated by the police.
In the second incident, a South African man died between Usakos and Arandis early Saturday morning.
The man, identified as Lourens Oswald Ferrera (73), died on the spot when the car he was driving overturned.
His wife sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at the Swakopmund Cottage private hospital.
