The police in Zambezi have arrested four suspects, in two separate incidents, in possession of wildebeest meat and arms and ammunition. 

In Katima Mulilo, they arrested a 35-year-old Namibian man for allegedly hunting a protected game (wildebeest) after meat as well as a firearm and ammunition were found in his possession. 

The suspected poacher was nabbed on Friday at Chisao village, Mutikitila area of the Zambezi region. 

The suspect was arrested after- a tip-off from the public. 

“When a search was conducted, we discovered wildebeest meat in his uncle’s house. It was stored in a deep freezer. The game meat was cut into small pieces and packed into plastic bags,’’ said the police.

The wildebeest head together with both front and rear hoofs were also recovered. 

“A rifle with 18 live rounds of ammunition, with binoculars and silencer mounted were also seized. The value of the wildebeest is N$9 950. The suspect is expected to appear before the court as police investigations continue,’’ the police further said.

In a similar case, the police in Katima Mulilo also arrested three suspected poachers for allegedly hunting protected game, also a wildebeest. 

The three Namibian men were said to have been found in possession of game meat without a permit and transporting game meat without a permit on Saturday at around 08h00 at Mavuluma Extension 1.
“The suspects aged 27, 31 and 36 were arrested after a tip-off by members of the public that they were selling game meat, without a permit. The meat was found in their possession after an operation was conducted and they are all expected to appear before court soon,’’ the police said.
