The “Fresh and Wild” of the Capital City

Home Time Out The “Fresh and Wild” of the Capital City

WINDHOEK– Fresh and Wild is tucked away in the residence of Klein Windhoek.

For the first timer like me it was a little difficult to locate, however, walking into the spot the atmosphere at the restaurant is welcoming and relaxing. One cannot help but becoming  aware of the live acoustic band performing when you stroll into the restaurant, spicing the eatery with a measure of entertainment to an otherwise cosy and laidback hideout. The scenery is garden like perhaps aptly reflecting the name, “Fresh and Wild”. Not to mention its inviting interior meant to wet the appetite of patrons an expectation the tasty foods eventually complete.

The eatery often changes its exciting menus according to the season definitely not making their menu predictable, hence the name “Fresh and Wild”. The menu changes about twice a year and for those people who have  adventurous palettes, their menu is very cosmopolitan with dishes  ranging from Italian to Asian inspired dishes. So you can take a culinary trip to “ Fresh and Wild”. The eatery also hosts wine tasting Fridays where local and South African wines can be sampled by wine connoisseurs or the folks who love to indulge in a glass or two.

I started off with a pizza named “Bravo” that has tasty meaty toppings like mince, biltong, salami, bursting with loads of flavour in your mouth complimented by delicious green peppers and garlic with a super thin crust “Bravo” pizza topped generously! So if you are a meat lover this pizza will definitely hit the right taste buds with you!  For the main course I was patriotic and had the noteworthy “Namibian Beef Fillet”, which is pierced with smoked white bacon on a port wine reduction sauce with a medley of vegetables. This dish was brilliantly plated I was not sure where to start.  So I  tucked right away into the beef,  which I must mention was very succulent and full of flavour.  The slightly priciest item on the main course menu is the “salmon fillet” costing N$ 170. The salmon is flown in from Norway, so worth it.  However, if you are a lover of flavoursome  quality food and do not mind adding an extra penny, indulge away.

Aside from the full of flavour quality food, the service is superb.  The chef is hands- on and interacts with customers. That is a thumbs up for the eatery as one does not see that with most restaurants in Windhoek. The host stand is very welcoming and immediately allocates you to your preferred place to sit. The waiters are friendly and maintained my table at a good pace as my dishes were replaced at appropriate times.  It is also a child friendly place and caters for the palettes of the little ones. Reservations are not needed you can just walk in unless it is a busy day.  Fresh and Wild does free direct deliveries to the comfort of your office. Fresh and Wild is situated at 64 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Klein Windhoek.
