Futsal team to depart tomorrow

The national women’s futsal team will depart tomorrow for Morocco, where they will take part in the 2025 Futsal African Cup of Nations.

Namibia are drawn in Group A, dubbed a tough group at the Afcon.

They will play against host nation Morocco and Cameroon.

This will be the first time the tournament is being held.

It will run from 22 to 30 April, with the winners booking a spot at the World Cup, which will be hosted later this year in the Philippines.

Speaking to this publication, the team’s assistant coach Cheila Nunda said the team is ready, and they have done everything possible to get them into the next round.

“We, as a team, are ready to go and give it our all. I believe we have quality in the team. There are seasoned players and those who are still trying to make their mark,” she said.

“I believe the squad is well- balanced. We have done all sorts of training and tried out all positions to ensure the players adjust to their specific positions. I am ready – and hopefully, we will qualify for the World Cup,” she added.

The Namibia Futsal Gladiators will be making their debut in the competition, marking a significant milestone for women’s futsal in the country.

This follows the participation of the Brave 5, Namibia’s men’s futsal team, in their first Futsal Afcon tournament in April 2024, also held in Rabat, Morocco.
