Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation Erkki Nghimtina yesterday confirmed the appointment of a well-known business executive, Johannes !Gawaxab, as Chairperson of the Social Security Commission (SSC). !Gawaxab replaces Bishop (Emeritus) Dr Zephania Kameeta, who was recently appointed as Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare. !Gawaxab’s appointment is for a period of three years in terms of Section 4 (1)(a) of the Social Security Act, 1994 (Act No. 34 of 1994).
!Gawaxab brings forth a wealth of experience in insurance, financial services and has worked not only in Namibia but in Europe and on the African continent.
“We need to provide a dynamic social security service, ensure governance is above board and transparent, and ensure that the mandate of the commission takes into consideration the new vision and direction articulated by President Hage Geingob,” said !Gawaxab.
