The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, on Tuesday met with President Hage Geingob in New York to discuss steps to tackle poverty and inequality.

President Geingob tweeted yesterday that he had “met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and recruited him to the Namibian war against poverty.”

The two leaders also discussed Namibia’s leadership in furthering good governance and anti-corruption measures. They agreed on the importance of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change.

The Secretary-General also acknowledged the leadership of Namibia in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
