The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Hage Geingob, intends to review the ministry’s operations, with trade incentives and export processing zones for manufacturers, and immigration issues being priorities.
“These are some of the things we have to smooth out,” said Geingob who was addressing a business delegation from the United States, which is currently in the country. The delegation consists of US honorary consuls from Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Nevada.
The delegation wants to meet Namibians with interests in the tourism sector, game hunting, mining and petroleum sector as well as forging ties with Namibian tertiary education institutions.
Ambassador Patrick Nandago, who is leading the delegation, said the Namibian Embassy in the US is working hard to promote Namibia in all 50 states.
Nandago said the embassy is “inundated with inquiries on investment opportunities in Namibia”.
“The embassy organises business trade forums, through which Namibia will be able to forge ties and expand the current business base for more foreign direct investments,” said Nandago, adding that he is only building on the achievements of his predecessor.
The promotion of Namibia in the US has, to date, resulted in scholarships from Florida for four Namibian students at the Polytechnic of Namibia, in the field of engineering, donation of 30 laptops to the Ministry of Education, a contribution of US$350?
