WINDHOEK – The matter in which a former security guard is charged with stealing nine central processing units (CPUs) and a laptop from the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) two years ago was deferred to April 07, next year, in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The accused, Simeon Thomas Amulungu (35) is currently out on bail of N$2 000. Mbanga Siyomuinji represented Amulungu, while Seredine Jacobs represented the State. Amulungu was arrested two years ago after police officers spotted him with the equipment. Security guards at the GIPF also reported the matter to the police. Surveillance cameras at GIPF allegedly showed Amulungu entering the building.
A CPU is a part of a computer system that carries out the instructions of a computer and stores information. Following the arrest the GIPF’s manager for corporate communications, Elvis Nashilongo, downplayed suspicions of an inside job, and speculation that the theft was linked to any of the bad loans that the GIPF made a few years ago.
