WINDHOEK – Tigers broke the record for the most number of goals scored in a single competitive football match when Bobby Samaria’s fired-up Ingweinyma walloped a hapless KCR Western Stars by a massive unanswered 25 goals to carve themselves a place in the last 16 of the lucrative Bidvest Cup over the weekend.
In a weekend that saw an avalanche of goals, Black Africa rose from their current slump to dispatch lower division opponents Shooting Stars 17-0 while LHU Blue Waters were among the biggest winners in the goal feast via a 11-1 thrashing of Vietnam Rangers from the lower division.
Young Chiefs got the better of fellow lower division opponents Ogongo United with a comfortable 5-0 victory, while Nampol Omaheke waltzed past their peace-keeping partners (Oshikoto Nampol) in a law enforcers’ 5-goal thriller (3-2).
Defending Bidvest Cup champions African Stars continued their rich vein of form by booking their place in the next round of the country’s oldest knockout competition with a comfortable 3-0 thumping of second tier division campaigners Cuca Tops.
MTC Premiership newcomers put their sluggish start to their league campaign aside when the Otavi outfit defeated an out of sorts Ohangwena Nampol 3-1.
Citizens returned the compliment to their fellow Premiership campaigners with an identical score line against Benfica in the round of 32 of the Bidvest Cup.
Lower division campaigners Kangwenu Tops were the surprise package of the round of 32. The Kavango West winners claimed the scalps of MTC Premiership outfit Mighty Gunners 4-2 in the dreaded penalty shootout after the two teams were tied 2-all in regulation time.
In other action, United Stars and Nelson Louis’ fast-improved Julihno cancelled each out in a 4-goal actioned packed derby with the latter emerging 2-1 victors on penalties.
Rejuvenated Eleven Arrows continued their good showing of late with a comprehensive 5-0 win against Pubs and Unam saw off Blue Boys 3-0 to confirm the massive gap between Premiership clubs and their lower division counterparts.
