Golden Girls remain in the lead

Khomas Netball League log leaders Golden Girls tightened their grip on the premier division after a convincing 40-21 victory over Afrocat Lions in a thrilling clash at Patrick Iyambo Police College over the weekend.

Saturday’s win ensured Golden Girls extended their lead at the top and kept their title hopes firmly on track.

Head coach Jacky Ortman said the team felt relieved to have secured maximum points in what she described as a testing encounter.

“It’s a relief for us to win this match. It was a tough one, but luckily, we lived up to expectations.

Thanks to the girls for an outstanding performance, and we hope to win all the remaining games,” she said.

Ortman added that their main target remains to secure the title early. “We want to be part of the premier league next season, so we cannot afford to drop points.

I think we have proven ourselves this season as a better team which deserves to play with the best. Hopefully, we can seal the title before the league concludes,” she said.

Despite the loss, Afrocat Lions coach Dimitri Bittler remained upbeat, saying his team would bounce back stronger.

“It wasn’t our day, but we’ll go back to the drawing board and find solutions. We’re looking forward to coming back bigger and better,” he said.

Elsewhere, league action kicked off on Thursday with the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) edging Unam Jaguars 30-26, while Friday saw Go Monate Fella beat Afrocat Lions 41-37.

On Saturday, Go Monate Fella continued their fine form with a 45-38 away win over Namibia Correctional Service (NCS). Meanwhile, Trustco United brushed aside NDF 53-29, and NUST claimed back-to-back wins, first with a 47-29 triumph over Afrocat Lions and then a narrow 49-47 victory against Trustco United.
