WINDHOEK – Golfers in the Namibian leg of the Sanlam Cancer Golf Challenge battled it out for the number one spot recently.
The finalists who qualified in the men’s division are L. Koch from Okahandja (A Division), B. Katjimune from Tsumeb (B Division) and U. Ezold from Omeya Club (C Division).
In the ladies division, the qualifiers are C. Robinson from Windhoek (A Division), B. Nolte from Omeya Club (B Division) and G. Adams from Windhoek (C Division).
The Sanlam Namibia Cancer Golf Challenge started in May this year, with close to 600 golfers from 13 different golf clubs teeing off.
The winners will now compete in the 36-hole national finals from 20-21 October 2014 at the spectacular fairways of the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City golf course.
The primary aim of the challenge is to raise funds for CAN. Sanlam Namibia has since 2004 donated more than N$2-million for the fight against cancer.
Local organizer Wessel Kotze said: “We are very proud of our players and stakeholders this year, especially Mona Klose from the Sanlam SFD Branch at Mariental who spearheaded a contribution of N$87 000.”
Tertius Stears, Group CEO of Sanlam Namibia, said: “This project is only a success because of the concerted efforts of all golfers, clubs and all Sanlam Namibia employees in the country.”
