The SKW women’s and the second men’s teams of CTC C and CTC Poly all collected maximum match points in the Namibia Tennis Association league last weekend at the SKW and Nampol  tennis courts in the capital.

The SKW ladies won against CTC A by 20-0 while CTC C overpowered Nampol by 20-0 and CTC Poly secured a 20-0 victory over SKW due to the no show of SKW players.  The highlight of the weekend games was SKW’s victory against CTC A. Tennis veteran Amanda van Dyk demonstrated once more that she is still the player to beat in Namibia’s women’s tennis.

In a nail-biting affair, Van Dyk defeated CTC A’s number one player Melissa Khupe 7-5, 6-1. SKW’s Sonja Martens also won against Ndeshi Daniels from CTC A by 6-4, 6-2. In the doubles, SKW’s Jessica Riedel and Mariska Kuscke proved too strong for CTA juniors Lisa Yssel and Denise Marondze, winning the match by 6-0, and 6-3. The other matches were forfeited after one player from CTC A was absent.

In the Men’s 2nd League, CTC C won all encounters against hosts Nampol. In the singles, Ndumiso Moyo (Jnr) won against Jaco Steenkamp of Nampol 6-1, 6-2 and Marsorry Ickua defeated Karl Hartmann 6-0, 6-2.

In the doubles, CTC C’s experienced veterans Bob Mould and Mkhululi Khupe won in two straight sets against Theron Steenkamp and Thomas Weber. Moyo (Jnr) and Ickua then went on to beat Nampol’s Theron Steenkamp and Thomas Weber 6-0, 6-3.

The perfect day for CTC C was sealed in the last doubles match when Mould and Khupe won 6-3, 6-4 against J. Steenkamp and Hartmann.

In the other Men’s League encounter, CTC Poly collected free points as the hosts  SKW did also not pitch up for the envisaged clash. No matches were played in the men’s first league. The league continues on Saturday, September 12.
