Kosis
“Thank you,” was the word of the day as about 50 elderly people received a donation of blankets from the Office of the //Kharas Governor on Thursday.
Kosis is one of the poorest settlements in the //Kharas Region, as most people in the area are unemployed.
Anna Josef, a spokesperson of the Kosis community, was entrusted with ensuring that the elderly who are most in need of blankets received the donations. She handed over most of the blankets to people at the settlement and retained only a few for the elderly on the surrounding farms.
Leading the chorus of thanksgiving, Magdalena Boois expressed her appreciation to Governor Lucia Basson, saying she is very grateful and happy to have received a blanket: “Please tell the governor that the Lord will give her a blessing for remembering us.”
Retired Pastor Salomon Kaffer also added to the thanksgiving message, by saying if you receive something in life, whether big or small, the first word to say is, “Thank you… None of us knew this would happen to us today, so we say thank you very much.”
The people at the event also thanked the government and President Hage Geingob and wished him good health and strength to lead the country.
Josef urged the recipients of the blankets to appreciate the little they get, explaining that Namibia is a big country and they should be thankful that the government chose them to benefit out of all the needy people in the country.
She also thanked the governor for having a soft spot for the Kosis community, saying that the people of Kosis will always value that.
She however called on the government to work speedily to restore the clinic at the settlement, saying it has become an absolute necessity as the population grows and more people are in need of medical care.
“Last week a woman gave birth at home, while waiting for the ambulance to take her to the nearest health facility,” she pointed out.
