Govt committed to economic development – Shiimi

OSHIKUKU – Finance minister Iipumbu Shiimi says the government remains committed to economic emancipation for Namibians through the hosting of trade fairs.

He made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf during the official opening of the third edition of the Oshikuku Annual Trade Fair on Tuesday.

The trade fair is an opportunity for people to walk away with something of value.

“I, therefore, urge you all to embrace this opportunity, and ensure that the Oshikuku Annual Trade Fair continues to grow, and remains a household annual feature not to be missed,” he said.

Shiimi said improved investments lead to employment opportunities, increased economic activity and ultimately, better living conditions.

“It is therefore crucial that this trade fair receives the necessary support from all of us so that we collectively build our economy, and develop our localities,” he added.

He stressed that through collective collaboration, Oshikuku can attract investment, and create a conducive environment for socio-economic development that will ensure employment opportunities for the youth, and improved provision of public services and social amenities.

Meanwhile, town mayor Julia Endjambi indicated that through the trade fair, Oshikuku is creating opportunities for investors to invest in order to grow the town’s socio-economic situation.

“Once the economy grows, we believe that there will be more opportunities for business and employment, which will then lead to a better living standard for our people,” she said.

She then urged all stakeholders, exhibitors and residents to continue supporting the event which  will feature on council’s annual events calendar.

This year’s trade fair is being hosted under the theme ‘Oshikuku creating opportunities for socio-economic growth for investors.’
