Faced with the scary reality of job scarcity, health information systems graduate Joan Kamati has embarked on a mission to create opportunities for him and others where there were once none.
Kamati graduated in 2021 with his first degree (Bachelor of Science in Health Information Systems) and again graduated in 2023 with a Postgraduate of Science in Health Information Systems. He also attained a Leadership and Management Certificate from the University of Washington in 2022.
With over three years of professional experience in both governmental and non-governmental sectors, Kamati said he understands firsthand the frustrations of countless unemployed graduates.
“I know how it feels to be rejected due to lack of experience. It is a struggle to apply for jobs with no avail. Graduates go through a lot,” he said.
He recently established a data consulting service called Jonak Data Consultants aimed at empowering businesses and organisations with data-driven solutions.
Rather than succumbing to despair, his innovative approach involves leveraging his academic training to address critical gaps in organisational decision-making processes. His consultancy focuses on enhancing efficiency and strategic decision-making through data analytics, a niche that is poised to revolutionise the employment landscape in Namibia.
“I realised that many organisations struggle with making informed decisions due to inadequate data utilisation. By bridging this gap, I aim to not only provide valuable services but also create internships and employment opportunities for fellow graduates,” he said.
The data consultancy service is different from others in a way that it brings a unique combination of expertise from specifically the health and general businesses fraternity.
“This data consultancy is a first of its kind in Namibia. It offers and delivers unparalleled data-driven solutions that empower businesses, organisations, ministries, and institutions to thrive in the digital age and beyond. It also promotes data literacy and fosters a culture of evidence-based data decision-making across industries and also partners with ministries or any organisation to leverage data analytics for smarter decision-making, driving sustainable growth,” he explained.
Kamati currently runs the business with Johannes Nakanyala who serves as an advisor as well as a co-founder. Nakanyala is from the business systems fraternity.
The business aims to soon employ unemployed graduates with qualifications that align with the consultancy.
