An 85-year-old pensioner from Ngwangwa village in Kavango East was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in her mahangu field on Saturday.
The incident occurred quietly and nobody apart from the victim had seen the alleged rapist, who remains at large.
Ngwangwa village is situated south of Rundu.
The victim, whose identity is known to New Era but cannot be revealed for ethical reasons, said she did not know the rapist.
He allegedly undressed her, pushed her to the ground and proceeded to rape her.
Police are investigating the case. “The pensioner opened a case of rape and investigations are underway. The suspect is still out there as he is unknown to the victim and the police can’t identify him,” confirmed chief inspector Chrispin Mubebo of the police in Rundu.
