Humanitarianism should lie at the core of any community. 

These are the sentiments of Ngumeritiza Memory Kuhanga (35) and Muningandu Lucky Kakuritjire (34), who are lending a helping hand to those who need it through various initiatives. 

Their tireless efforts led them to forming the Grateful Heart Foundation in 2024.

The foundation has already made a mark in people’s lives, especially this month when Namibians living in informal settlements of Windhoek were left stranded because of flash floods.

“As far as the Grateful Heart’s name goes, we thought about how appreciative we are of what we have. Even if it is small, we remain grateful and blessed. Our project is about giving the little we have to others,” Kuhanga told Youth Corner.

With assistance, the duo collected items such as blankets, shoes, clothes, school uniforms, cutlery, crockery
 and many more to assist those affected by the flood.  

“We need each other in life. Collecting all these things is done on foot with the limited resources we have that come from our pockets,” she noted.

On 26 December 2024, they held a donation day at Ozombouvapa and Otjombundiro and the following day, they had a donation drive at Otjimanangombe in the Epukiro constituency. 

“On 11 January 2025, we donated to the flood victims of 7de Laan, who were relocated to Goreangab. On 25 January, we are planning on another big day at Goreangab. It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving,” said Kakuritjire, who hails from Epukiro.
