Police have launched a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who shot and killed a security guard some time between Sunday night and early Monday morning, before piling a heap of grass on top of his corpse near a shebeen in the informal settlement of Chotto in the Zambezi Region.

The guard was attacked and killed while on duty guarding a shebeen, known as Nomakanjani, located at the entrance of Chotto informal settlement. His lifeless remains were found at around 08h00 on Monday morning, wrapped in a blanket and covered with grass.

Visible wounds suggest he had been shot with a shotgun between the neck and the chest by the suspected armed robbers. One spent round of ammunition was found at the shebeen, which was broken into by the robbers. They reportedly stole N$6 000 in cash.

He was identified as 30-year-old Kenneth Mukotekwa from Kapelwa Security Services and his next of kin have already been informed. No suspects have been arrested and investigations continue.

In a separate incident a male suspect opened fire and shot a man and a woman at Katima Mulilo’s Cowboy informal settlement at around 02h00 on Saturday. It is understood the suspect fled in a sedan Toyota Corolla. Although known to the police he is still at large. The man that was shot is reported to be in a stable condition, while the woman is reported to be in critical condition.
