By Engel Nawatiseb TSUMEB The manager of the Khomas Security Services in the Oshikoto region Jeffrey Bause says his security company has documentary proof that the salaries of all its guards have been paid and are up to date. Bause took issue with a report carried by this newspaper yesterday in which it was reported that some guards in northern Namibia are still owed salaries dating back to August last year. “I am seriously disputing information and statistics relating to the salaries and the duration of the strike action. I am therefore stating that the strike action involved only three security guards and lasted only one-and-half hours,” Bause confirmed. Labour relations at the company have reportedly improved dramatically following the strike action that halted operations of the company in the Oshikoto region late November last year. “Any institution has its own problems, but we resolved ours and everyone is happy, their salaries are paid punctually. I am therefore urging you (reporter) to put the record straight,” cautioned Bause. They (managers) told New Era on Monday that security personnel and management had resolved the dispute that was prompted by irregularities in the salary payments of employees. Security guards employed by the company laid down tools and abandoned most premises of the Ministry of Health and Social Services for alleged failure by the company to pay their salaries. He said that all security guards left the premises and refused to work despite attempts to keep them on duty while their grievances were being heard. The managers however told New Era that the problems were related to the internet banking system, which the company used to pay workers’ salaries. The Ministry of Health and Social Services awarded a tender for security services at its health centres in the Oshikoto region to the Khomas Security Services Company, believed to be a Black Economic Empowered group.
