Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) club Mighty Gunners FC continued its impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign after collecting maximum points last weekend.

The Otjiwarongo-based team is now leading the log table after it stunned champions African Stars 2-1 on Saturday.

They went on to beat Khomas Nampol FC 4-0 on Sunday at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.

Gunners head coach Leonard Kati Nambandi expressed excitement to New Era Sport, saying he is proud of the boys’ character and consistency in both matches.

“We played against two strong sides from Windhoek. I am happy with the results. The boys showed hunger, discipline and a mentality that we have been working on as a team,” he said.

Nambandi stated that it was a mountain to climb to play two tough matches in such a short space of time, but his players showed great fitness level and tactical maturity.

“Every department, starting from defence to attack, has executed our plan perfectly. Beating African Stars is never an easy task, but I am extremely proud of the boys for the way they rose to the occasion. We came with a clear plan, a strong mentality and the belief that we could match them in every department. The players delivered,” said the head coach.

He, however, said it is still early in the season, and a lot of work remains to be done.

He added that the focus now is on recovering well, staying humble and preparing for the next challenge.

Nambandi complimented the fans for their tireless support.

He said it gave players a huge boost, and the victories are dedicated to them.

“This victory is a statement of intent. It shows that Mighty Gunners are ready to compete at the highest level and challenge for honours this season,” added the head coach.

African Stars assistant coach Benedictus Hauseb said collecting one point out of six is not what the team desired.

He said the display on the field was not a true reflection of African Stars.

The champions shared the spoils with Life Fighters FC with a goalless draw.

“We did not play our usual football. We hardly connected passes, and that worked against us. Mighty Gunners did that better than us,” Hauseb said.

The assistant coach added that the defeat to the Gunners should serve as a wake-up call.

“We have the capacity to do better. These results are a good call for the next assignment. We are confident of turning the tables around,” he said.
