WINDHOEK – The Hadago Special Project Trust (HSPT) last Wednesday handed a cheque worth N$8 000 to the Meekulu Martha Haufiku Children’s Orphanage Home in Eenhana. The trust is a charity initiative of Prime Minister Dr Hage Geingob to benefit vulnerable and needy Namibians.
To date HSPT has spent over N$150 000 assisting Haufiku with the construction of a two-bedroom house at her village near Eenhana at a cost of N$95 000, food vouchers for two years to the tune of N$18 000, a monthly stipend and grant of N$500 for 24 months, clothing allowance for 10 children for N$5 000, clothing allowance for Haufiku for N$5 000, furniture for N$5 000 and renovations of her house to the tune of N$5,000.
According to a press statement released by trustee and HSPT administrator, Tonata Shiimi, on Geingob’s 70th birthday Geingob requested instead of gifts to him, well wishers should rather donate their gifts to the Meekulu Martha Haufiku Children’s Orphanage Home run by Meekulu Haufiku.
As a result HSPT was established by the Prime Minister with the objective of aiding Namibians who are in need of material and moral support to enable them to better deal with the challenges they may be facing.
“The support to Meekulu Haufiku and her dependants has been made possible by our implementing partner Mr Haimbodi of O.Save Mini Market at Eenhana. Monies are paid to O.Save Mini Market and every two weeks in a month Miss Haufiku collects food from the supermarket,” reads the statement.
Other Namibians who benefited from HSPT include Mavis Garoës from Katutura whose house burned down in Okuryangava in late November 2012. It donated N$5000 for building material to Garoës.
“The trust will be making a further N$5 000 donation to TOV Multipurpose Centre in Tsumeb – a facility which looks after orphans and vulnerable children in the Oshikoto Region. This centre also provides pre-school, day care and computer training services, HIV/AIDS awareness and training is also a service provided by this centre,” reads the statement further.
Geingob thanked everyone that supported the initiatives of HSPT and called on fellow Namibians to continue supporting vulnerable Namibians wherever and whenever possible.
